We had a few budgerigars and from my experience, they are beautiful birds to look at but not the ones for me. I was never capable to train them to be a real pet even though I have people on my family who had budgerigars that were truly friendly (climbing on their shoulders or walking free around the house. Our budgerigars never talked but they imitated the barking of our dogs and they knew how to reproduce various whistles that we taught them. Sometimes they made quite a mess with food in their cages and despite being pleasant to hear them sometimes they made a lot of noise. I think they are beautiful and if you put enough time on training them you will probably be able to pet them (as my cousin did), but if you, like me, don´t have the time, maybe they’re not for you. Unfortunately, they died from breathing problems that seems to be a usual problem of these birds.
