Life as a Parakeet Owner

Can I really call myself a parakeet owner when I was only 6 at the time? oh well, they were mine and I loved them...most of the time

I had to beautiful parakeets that I called salt and pepper even though that made no sense and they were gloriously beautiful green and yellow and red colors. My child like mind was definitely behind that one.

Being so young I think I loved them because they looked so beautiful and it was cool trying to train them to mimic my words. They liked my mom and I the most, they never really took a liking to my dad who was the one that changed their cage and what not. We had a back patio type of thing in our apartment building that we kept them out on because it was enclosed and we were on like the third floor. This ment it didn't really smell and we could block them out if they were getting too noisy. I remember their "time out" being my mom putting them out there and a towel over the cage so they couldn't see anything and they would actually be quiet and not wine.

Not very friendly with other people who aren't the owners, ie. extended family and friends. They even bit us a few times, thus the time out punishment my mom implemented. I only had them for a little over a year because there was a smoke fire in our building when we weren't home that ended up killing them I would probably not have parakeets again because of how high maintenance they are, and just the biting on a regular basis is really annoying.
