We bought Kiki from a local pet store. I picked her because she looked very petite and had beautiful colors. I'm not sure exactly what kind of parakeet she was so I will attach a photo of one that looks very similar. She was a very well-behaved and friendly bird. I think she did nip at my son a couple of days after we got her, but she warmed up to him after he learned how to handle her properly. We learned she did not like it if we were too loud around her. It seemed to upset her. She would ruffle her feathers at us. She loved to chirp and make pretty noises, and yes, sometimes she did it too much! However, we did find out we could put a towel or small blanket over her cage, and it seemed to calm her down a bit. I have learned that some birds like this, and some don't. So, test the waters first. Kiki was a very light eater so we did not spend much on seed. We did get a larger cage, so that she could have enough room to be happy. We got Kiki out of her cage at least once a day. She loved to walk around on the coffee table. Some days she didn't want to get out of her cage, like when we had a lot of guests over. I loved this bird! Of course, the worse part is the clean up. It wasn't very hard to clean up, but it did have a little smell, so I usually swapped the bottom out every 7-10 days. I think we got lucky with Kiki because she was so sociable, but there are some parakeets who are very unfriendly, so spend some time with your bird before you buy. I definitely recommend having a the RIGHT parakeet in the right environment.
