I absolutely adore budgies! Coming downstairs to her the little thing singing in the morning (or in my birds case shouting that it want's porridge and oats), watching your bird play and fly around throughout the day, having him sat on your shoulder muttering into your ear as you go about your daily chores... what could be better?!
Budgies are such easy animals to keep provided you can give them enough company, that is the most important thing to these birds. They are flock animals and so get easily depressed on their owns. The more time you spend with your bird not only will it be happy and healthy but it will speak more, interact with you more and do more tricks. You can keep budgies together however, they are much much less likely to mimic what you say to them in this case.
Budgies are also great for teaching children responsibility without the worries that come along with larger animals like cats and dogs. Children can easily clean their cages, fill up their seed and water trays and teach the bird words and to 'step up' onto their finger. They are also great for keeping elderly people company: I bought my Grandad a budgie around 5 years ago and it's his best friend! They are inseparable in the house and he mimics my Grandads voice to a tee.
