Budgies are the perfect 'first bird'

I've owned budgies all my life, having had pet ones as a child and then owning them myself as an adult. They are very hardy little birds and so easy to look after.

I've had them in cages in the house and also in large aviaries and both have thrived. My current budgie is 'baby bird' and he is currently living with my dad as a companion for him.

For me, I've never got as attached to a budgie as other pets, but that might just be me! In saying that, I love them and think they are great pets, especially for someone who has never owned a bird or pet before.

So easy to look after, provide clean water and budgie seed and keep the cage clean and that's about it! Although a very hardy little bird, they are small so watch for extreme weather variants - in hot weather ensure plenty of water and shade and in cold weather ensure they are covered or sheltered from the wind.

Very easy to tame a budgie and if you have the time they are generally happy to learn tricks and learn to talk. Available in many different colours from the traditional green to yellows, blues, mauves etc. I've had both male and females over the years and both have proven to be great birds.
