Who doesn't love a bird?

I was always attracted to birds except for the boring grey starlings and pidgins I grew up with. The first time I saw a Parrot I was mesmerized and had to have one. Of course this never happened and life rolled on. Knowing about my fascination with these colorful songsters, my husband came home from work with two beautiful parakeets in a cage one night. I was thrilled of course having absolutely no idea about birds at all, just loving the color and movement of them. The woman who gave them to us sent a note telling me what they ate and to change newspaper (bottom of cage) as needed. Well none of it sounded hard so I was not concerned in any way. After listening to them for a couple of days their song began to sound like a screech and they seemed to get louder and louder as the days went by. This was before the days of Google and so I knew nothing about covering the cage or anyway at all to shut them up. They were an active pair and feathers started flying in the cage, outside the cage, seemed like feathers were everywhere! Oh and that newspaper I was told about? I was totally unaware about the fact it would be a regular mess that needed to be cleaned almost every single day! I was not prepared (as usual) for the work that went into maintaining these two beautiful creatures but after I accepted it I really did enjoy having the company.
