Advantages and disadvantages based on my own experience:

"+"

- the price is affordable (including bird-cage and foodstuff);
- very sociable, companionable, helps to deal with loneliness, very nice to little children;
- no worries if you leave your budgerigars alone - just leave a mirror inside the cage, they like to play with it. Or leave a playing audio record, so they can learn new words;
- definitely a tame parrot, no need for special taming guides.

"-"

- the early birds, make some noise in the morning to grab your attention;
- often messy, you will face with feathers and seed coats outside the cage;
- can learn some dirty words from the record that you will play and then to your guests' faces, thus be careful with that ;)
