My mother always called budgerigars parakeets when I was growing up. What you call them, they are wonderful birds. They sing and are active and fun to watch. If you get one when they are young you can hand train them and they become very lovable. All our budgies were really friendly and loved to be handled.

Do be careful if you have a cat. These birds are so eye catching and active your kitty will go crazy and knock the cage down, or try to get it if you hang it from the ceiling. We learned it was very hard to keep our cat from trying to jump at the cage, no matter where it was.

This is a great pet for apartments and kids since they are so easy to care for and are so pretty.
