I didn't much like my experience with Ocean. But that could be because I was so young when we got him, that I handled him too roughly. As a result, he never liked me. But he liked my mom, I think. In the morning, the bird heard my mom moving around downstairs and began chirping until she took off the towel that covered his cage at night. He knew what was up.

He was a very nervous bird. Probably because of me. But he never really seemed to trust anyone in the family. It was a real chore to let him out of his cage because we couldn't get him back in unless he happened to fly in.

However, despite my bad experience with Ocean, I would still recommend trying the parakeet. I have heard how loving they are. Just don't get two of them if you want them to mimic. Even though Ocean's buddy, Sky, sadly passed away soon after we got them, he still had never learned to mimic because of his socialization with another bird.
