Acquired: Pet store

My mom has fond memories of growing up with a blue parakeet that she taught to say "Hi", "pretty bird" and people's names. With cats and dogs at home, we weren't sure if a bird was the right addition to our furry family but that thought changed when we went to a pet store "just to look" and saw a little blue parakeet with a big, big personality. We named her Emily. Emily (or "bubbit") was spunky, and a music critic. She loved the Oldies radio station. Her favorite songs were Rockin Robin and Chain Gang. She's chirp along and dance around her cage. If a song came on she didn't like, she would squawk and 'scold' till the song was over. As she got older, it seemed like she got senile. She'd escape from her cage and walk around the house without fear of the dogs and cats. At times, it seemed like she didn't realize they were there. Dogs and cats are common family pets, but birds are sweet, funny and rewarding pets too.
