Overview--my experience with 4 different budgies

Appearance--In general, I love the budgie because of the many handsome colors they may come in, including: shades of blue, shades of green, yellow, turquoise, gray, white, and splashes of those on a multi-colored bird.

Friendly w/ owner--1/4 budgies that I've had was actually friendly with me, and would cooperate with me.  The other 3 were, say, antisocial, and only wanted to stay in their cage.

Friendly w/ family--Definitely not.  One of the 3/4 that were unfriendly tore a chunk of skin out of my father's thumb.  The 1/4 that was friendly was a one-person bird.

Trainability--Do not get this bird if you want it to perform tricks, persay.

Activity Level--All of my budgies are/were very hyper and excitable.

Song/vocal quality and frequency and mimicking--I loved to listen to all of my budgies when I was working--all of them had beautiful songs.  For the most part, they sang non-stop when I was home.  DO NOT get this bird if you want to train your bird to speak words--budgies are the worst choice.  The occasional budgie can learn, but very few will learn.

Health/vigor/maintenace/care--Very healthy, but not hardy.  Once one of them catches a cold, it will die pretty soon--you have to be good at reading the signs.

Cost to own--relatively cheap.
