People are often quick to dismiss the humble budgie saying they "don't do much" or are "boring". My response: Your doing it wrong!

Budgies can be the most adorable, fun birds you will ever own. They are a great first bird and a brilliant family pet. They key is to take time when choosing. Rather than rushing to a pet store, seek out an experienced breeder of hand tamed birds.

Unlike the skittish pet shop bird the hand tamed budgie will be more than happy to follow you around the house, sit on your shoulder or hand and twitter in your ear!

Unlike bigger parrots, Budgies rarely suffer with behavioural problems such as feather picking. The initial cost is much lower than that of a parrot, they are smaller which means you don't need a gigantic cage and you could even think about keeping two together is a slightly bigger cage.

Some other fun Budgie facts:

~When cared for correctly and given a varied diet they can live 10+ years
~Budgies are secretly dolphins...they love water! A budgie will happily have a bath in a bowel of water!
~They can learn tricks and they love to play with toys. You can purchase toys or even try making your own.
~They can talk! A lot of people don't realise this but budgies can learn to mimic. I have met some that have learned lots of words and phrases.
The males tend to be more eager to talk but females can learn too!
