2 Budgies

My grandparents had budgies and I know plenty of people who own them, so I thought that they must be fairly easy to take care of.

I bought 2 (unknown sex, unknown age) and kept them in a cage together. 2 months down the road, one of them died. A few weeks after, the other one died.

I bought them from the pet store, so I don't know if they were sick or if I had done something wrong.

I had read that the birds do need attention, or they can develop mental problems and cause them to die. They never seemed that high maintenance when I was younger (at my grandparents house). It seemed like most people just have them around, obviously kept the cage clean and clean food and water always stocked up, but that's it. I never saw people teach them tricks or anything.

I think this may be a good pet for kids who are maybe 5+ because it will teach them some responsibility with cleaning and feeding the birds.
