I can't remember I time when our house was void of parakeets. I have lived with them so long, nobody in my family notices when they chirp. Strangers at our house will look at us like we are insane, as we sit watching tv, completely oblivious to the obnoxious, sometimes incessant chirping. While I can see why some people find them annoying, I would never want to get rid of our parakeets. We have always had a green and blue one sitting in a cage together, watching us go about our routines. Every time one dies, my mother will buy another one that looks the exact same, and everyone goes on in denial, pretending they are the same birds we bought nearly 10 years ago. Parakeets are fun animals, they are easy to take care off, and fun to watch. They are very safe, cheap, and although you will never form as strong a bond with them as you would a dog or cat, they are enjoyable. Although, I wouldn't recommend this we used to let them out once a week, to fly around our great room. They would perch on house plants, or one of the chandeliers. When it was time for them to go back in the cage, we would chase them around with brooms, and when they got tired, scoop them up and put them back. It was a lot of fun. As i stated before, their chirping can get annoying at times, but you will get used to it eventually. I would recommend parakeets of any kind to anyone who wants a pet, but is busy, or doesn't have a lot of space.
