Budgies, the Budgerigar...

Started with a couple of them and soon two became twenty-two. Colorful and energetic I have always loved having budgies around.

The cages became larger and larger as they laid eggs and more baby budgies were born. I had to regularly exchange budgies with the local pet shops as it is no recommended to keep too many birds of the same family together.

I have a name for each of them and is not difficult to spot which one is which. From a distance they seem to be all the same but each one of them is special and have different personalities. They love sunbathing in the morning, sharpening their beaks against hard surfaces and cooling off in their water bowl.

They can demand lots of work as you need to keep their space always clean. They love fresh water, seeds and some fruits. They get started at the first sight of sunlight and can be very noisy. They also hate fast movements and will fly around like crazy if they get scared.

Having a couple of these birds can be a wonderful experience but if you wish to have as many as I do, be prepared to put lots of hours into it. They need lots of care and will definitely get you out of bed a lot earlier!
