Parakeets So Pretty

I loved the parakeets that I owned. Bandit and Petrie were my first two and I acquired them when I was around 8 or 9 years old. I would not recommend these cute little birdies for children much younger than that because boy when they decide to bite...oh does it hurt. I remember slinging my little Bandit across the floor once because she latched on. Drew blood from my finger. Not sure why she bit me but something must have scared her. Normally they were pretty friendly but it does take some patience to teach them to get used to your hands being in the cage with them, to step up on your finger and to not feel frightened when they are outside of the cage. The clean up is extreme because birds are messy messy messy. Even these little ones. You also have to learn to clip their wings and provide them with enough nutrition, toys and cuttle bones for their health. Not really a pet for a young child unless the parent wants to be the primary caregiver. :)
