My pionus is laid back. His favorite thing to do is sit in my lap and watch tv. If I set him down, he stays where I put him. He's extremely obedient and wants to please me. He learns tricks quickly!! He's friendly towards strangers and he loves dogs and cats. (Cats are not a smart thing to love!! So I will never have a cat.) He talks more than our other two birds. He probably says 10-15 words or phrases.
When we lived at home, Paco would toss out food for the dogs to lure them into his room. He also learned to bark. When the dogs would bark because someone was home, he would bark too.
Paco is very even keeled. The only time he really shows excitement is when he gets to go for a car ride. He loves the car!!!
In 4 years, Paco has bitten me 5 times. On the rare occasion he doesn't want to do something, he will just turn his back or puff up and hiss. He does need LOTS of sleep. If I keep him up too late, he is grouchy the next day.
The one annoying thing he's learned to do is scream. He doesn't do it all the time, but if he's mad, or he wants me, he screams. Its frustrating!!! And he wasn't consistently worked with by all members of the house hold at first. We now ignore him completely when he's screaming and its slowly getting better. He's certainly !!not!! the quiet parrot my research insinuated he would be.
Paco only allows me to pet him. He happily interacts with pretty much anyone, but I'm the only one he's lovey towards.
In general, Paco is a great bird. He does annoying things (like scream) but more than makes up for that by being so well behaved otherwise.
