Grown up with a blue-fronted Amazon for more than twenty years and of all outstanding features I would say noisy is the key adjective! Really fun birds and will comfortably pick up words and phrases through training, and (as has become a comedy cliche) from unintentional sources.
The parrot has been known to copy family members calling the others to dinner, and certain sounds/brief comments made by friends and neighbours who visit regularly. Also TV theme tunes. So if the language gets a little blue once the kids have gone to bed be warned!
As far as contact with the parrot is concerned, it is very much a person-to-person basis, at times I can tickle the back of it's neck and it seems to thoroughly enjoy the experience, but five minutes later if I attempted the same it would happily have my finger off. Will make a shrill and repeated squawk if stressed, threatened or just bored. Very difficult to stop it once it's started.
Very messy and will grab fruit/seeds and throw three quarters of them on the bottom of the cage to nibble a tiny morsel. Regular cleaning of cage/changing newspaper essential.
On a more positive note though, a good relationship can be built between owner and parrot, and their background conversation adds amusement to small gatherings!
