Blue Crowned Conure - Paulie!

"Paulie" is a 1998 movie about a Blue Crowned Conure and his relationship with a little girl; this marked the first time the general public was exposed to this species, as they were (and are again) relatively uncommon in the pet trade compared to many other species of Conure. Unfortunately, many of the birds that were bought on impulse due to the popularity of the movie were soon rehomed once the realities of life with a BCC became clear; for one thing, they are a member of the Aratinga family along with the Jenday and Sun Conures, and although the BCC looks very different, it does have one thing in common with it's cousins - the BCC is LOUD. They are generally poor talkers but may learn a word or two, however they do enjoy spending lots of out-of-cage time and require a large cage with lots of mental stimulation to avoid the development of screaming or feather destructive behaviours. They are fairly independent as far as Conures go and an adequate playstand for out-of-cage time is a must.
