Blue & Golds are the most easygoing macaws

Blue & Gold Macaws are common in the pet trade for one very good reason - as macaws go, they make great pets! Relatively easygoing, gregarious and highly adaptable, these clowns are the best choice for a family who understands and accepts the needs of having a large parrot in the home. Blue & Golds have a charming ability to engage in tricks in order to make their humans laugh that makes them nearly irresistible. Most will learn to speak some words and phrases and they can often learn to place their words in context; rather than merely mimicing you, they understand that when you ask, "Where's the kitty?" that's their cue to call, "HERE, KITTY KITTY KITTY" and then after a pause, "Meow." Macaws love drama and so the same quality that makes them entertaining can also create issues with biting and lunging for a handler who lacks confidence and shows fear or uncertainty. Screaming can also be an issue for Blue & Golds who lack sufficient stimulation, but unlike many smaller species who suffer from this behavioural issue, Blue & Golds will quiet down so that they can hear you if you only speak to them in whispers - and before long, you'll have them whispering back!
