Rescue blue and gold macaw, Belize. She's 34 years old!

Major drawbacks...
1. HUGE poops means lots of cleanups and an odd smell if not cleaned up promptly. It takes me double the time to clean up her cage area than it does my grey and amazon put together!
2. Often cranky. I've heard these birds can be cantankerous at times and it's true.
3. Most standard macaw cages are actually not big enough to give the bird much room so I would recommend buying a double macaw cage and taking out the divider to give the poor bird adequate room for their long tails. Getting a cage that has strong enough bars is important too since some macaws will snap the welds on the bars.
4. Belize is a sentinal bird meaning if she sees something outside passing by she screams bloody murder. It can be frustrating at times.
