"Tica" - Our Blue & Gold Macaw

It is easy to understand why people are drawn toward Blue & Gold macaws. Whenever people come to visit our home, Tica makes sure that she captivates everyone. She is beautiful, with a large personality and an extensive vocabulary. However, it is easy to see how their beauty gets them in placed in undesirable circumstances. Most people don't seem to realize that they are not domestic animals. They need someone who is truly committed to dedicating the time and attention that they require to be healthy and happy birds.
Macaws love to vocalize, and their screams of excitement, joy, frustration, delight or any other reason, are not for everyone; or their neighbors. We love Tica, and we couldn't imagine life without her, but it is sad to see how many Blue & Golds end up in rescue facilities. Statistics prove that they are not for everyone.
Before purchasing a macaw, it would be a good idea to listen to them vocalize before they settle in for the evening. Tica only makes her joyful screams for about 10 minutes or so, but it seems much longer at times. Blue & Golds are wonderful birds for the committed bird lover.
