When I was a little kid and imagined someday having a bird, I imagined a macaw. Huge, magnificent, stunning, I saw it soaring through the jungle to land gently on my arm. Blue and gold macaws are intelligent, curious, and seem almost to have whimsical personalities. They are not always willing to share the best of themselves with their family, however. Many blue and golds go through aggression as they enter adolescence. While some overcome and go on to be sweet birds, many operate on their own terms, and owners hope to catch birds in a good mood. This is a bird only for the most advanced owner, and even then, be aware that this will be your bird for a very long time, whether he likes you or not.
