Ringneck Dove

I owned a beautiful ringneck dove for 12 years, she was a great pet to have. It took awhile to get her comfortable with me. I spent a lot of time gently petting her and holding her so she would get used to me. She needed a big cage and perches at different heights in the cage so she would have enough space to fly around. She loved high places so a taller cage would be best. You need to trim their nails on a regular basis which can be difficult (it's fiddly and I was scared of hurting her) so I had my vet do it for about $20. She was kind of a quiet bird, noisy but not too noisy. I had to remember to put a blanket over the cage at night so she wouldn't keep me awake with her cooing. I would let her fly around indoors everyday so she could get some exercise. She was a bit difficult to train but training her with food worked well and after some time I had her sitting on my shoulder. She was pretty inexpensive to own (her cage was the most expensive item and her food was quite cheap), gentle and trainable.
