Penelope was a rescue that was turned in to an animal shelter. She was frightened and not very social, although she never offered to bite, so I knew she was trainable. She coos so beautifully, but not as often as I would like to hear. She likes to stand on my hand. She eats out of my hand. She is so sweet and enjoys being petted and stroked. I don't think she would do well with younger children simply because a dove is quite delicate and could be injured by a child that didn't know how to handle a bird. Therefore I would not recommend a dove for a family with children under 8 years of age.
