I first came into contact with the Australian Magpie in 2012 when I came across a badly injured and malnourished young bird tangled in a fence. I untangled it and took it home, nursing it back to health until it was strong enough to return to the wild. It didn't really bond with me or my family, and certainly never returned once it was released.
Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend keeping the Magpie as a pet. They are wild animals, they need space to stretch their wings so they can stay healthy, and they do not adapt well to captivity.
