Canaries are one of my favorite birds. The males have beautiful songs and both the male and female are cheery and delightful to watch. Canaries make sweet little pets, though not really affectionate or easy to tame, they make up for it and their adorable antics and song (only the males sing).

Canaries are easy to care for. The should be kept in the largest cage you can afford with plenty of perches and swings. They do well on a commercial seed diet with daily servings of leafy greans and occassional fruit. They enjoy bathing. Place a shallow bowl of water filled with greens on the floor of their cage and they will bath with gusto. You will want to cover them at night unless you want to wake up at first light to their robust song.
