My experience was not so great...

I had my two canaries for about a year.
I have to say my experience with them was not so great, unfortunately.
On the up side, they were surely beautiful and I loved hearing them sing. If they got too loud at night (it happened sometimes), I did as the pet shop owner told me and covered the cage with a dark cloth: it usually worked.
We bought them in May and kept the cage outside. The problems began when October came. Where I live it gets freezing cold in winter, therefore we had to always keep them inside the house and the smell was really bad, even though we cleaned the cage as often as possible.
The female laid eggs a couple of times, but the male always threw them off the nest. We didn't really worry, we just removed the broken eggs.
The male, though, was quite aggressive, so we thought that it would be better to separate them. We asked the vet, but he said it wasn't a good idea. Turned out that we was wrong. In the end, the male killed the female and then died a few weeks later.
So... yeah, overall it wasn't such a great experience. I don't think I'll be buying any more birds in the near future.
