Sammy was a lab specimen we got from a university after they were done using him for study. Very sweet and docile, he would wake up after the sun went down and things cooled off. Then you could use a low light to see his antics. From 'hunting' for his dinner to finding a place to digest, Sammy knew he had an audience and would play to it. Exercise time was a hoot with gymnastics in the water and lots of tail flapping. Spotted salamanders do get large and Sammy was no exception. He was a good 8" long and pretty heavy at maturity. We don't know how old he was but we had him for 4 years and will miss him dearly.
