I love Fire bellies!! They are extremely beautiful, inexpensive and fun to watch!
You can find themat any major pet store for under $10. You can keep their setup easy by using reptile bedding and using a large fairly deep dish of water for them to bathe in. You can also get quite ornate by making a large habitat of half water half land using a water filter. I have done both. I think the half water habitat is beautiful. The filter helpsfilter out waste and the toxin the toads secrete.
They are considered poisonous as they secret a toxin. They can not be kept with any other frogs or fish as they will get poisoned. They do not like and you should not handle them. Mostly for their well being. Their skin can absorb stuff from our hands and you COULD get a rash from the toxin if you have sensitive skin. Their water needs to have a filter or if in a bowl changed often.
They dont need heaters or fancy lighting.
They mostly eat crickets 2-3 times a week. I found the purchasing of crickets kind of annoying.
They can live in groups if provided enough space. males have a really nice call.. ocassionaly you will see them wrestling or trying to mate. They are not easy to breed so you will not end up with 1000 babies. They can escape so you want to have a SECURE lid. this keeps them and the crickets in and cats etc out!
