I was Gregor's third owner and he was already 10 years old when I received him. He was in a very small aquarium and had been fed exclusively on dry pellets so I immediately upgraded him into a larger tank and introduced some live food into his diet.
Providing an appropriate habitat is very easy. Fire belly newts are entirely aquatic so they do not require a platform to crawl out. They do need a hiding space. Keeping the tank at room temperature is OK - but cooler temperatures are better. Fortunately I was in a basement apartment at the time so it was always cool.
In general, he was a very low maintenance pet. I kept the water clean with regular partial water changes.
Great pet for someone interested in amphibians and wanting some experience!
