The Emperor Newt (Tylototriton shanjing) is a strange and unusual species of Newt. This is a VENOMOUS species, meaning that it has the ability to inject venom (yes venom) into its prey or any finger that is placed close to its mouth. They are great display Newts and do very well in an amphibious setup. I keep mine in groups of 2 or 3 in 200 litre tanks with about 15 cm of water in them. they all have a fake mesh floor with a nice mossy land area of about one third of the area. They also have a small stream that trickles into the water. These are very much land dwellers as well and will appreciate the land area provided and more importantly they need it. A great species to keep and very unusual. Only for expert keepers as they are venomous.
