Throughout my life I've had many different pets and have been around many different animals on the farm. By far, the most unusual was the salamander I got as a kid. I don't remember why I thought having a salamander as a pet was a good idea, but I definitely remember feeding it, cleaning it's tank and watching it sun bathe on the rocks in the aquarium. I fed it earth worms and kept a small dish of water in its tank, which it never drank from but rather would sit in it (and usually poop in!) Cleaning its tank was not difficult, but keeping it secure while I did so was! It was an interesting critter to keep, but alas, did not last very long. As with all types of amphibians and reptiles, they tend to be escape artists. My experience with a salamander as a pet was short-lived as a result, as it escaped one day while I was at school and I came home and it was nowhere to be found...until several days later when I found it dried up in one of my shoes! In all, I would not recommend a salamander as a pet unless you have a very secure habitat for it, and are not easily disgusted by feeding it worms and crickets.
