I lived in Minnesota for 8 years. During that time, we were privileged to be in an area where the Tiger Salamander is still quite prolific. They are generally underground dwellers, but come out when it rains. My children would catch them and keep them in a terrarium for long periods of time. They were very easy to care for, however, they do have a sticky poison they secrete in their skin when provoked. It is not highly toxic to humans, but to a small child it could be somewhat toxic. They are interesting pets, but they do spend most of their time hidden.
