The Common Newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) is a great choice for beginners and makes a great choice as a first time amphibian. This is a very common species of Newt and is very well spread all over Europe and the United Kingdom. They do very well in completely aquatic setups as long as they have a small piece of dry land to rest on and occupy if they would like to. They feed really well on bloodworms, mealworms, waxworms, and small pieces of earthworms, and fishflakes. This is a great species for beginners and I would highly recommend it to any keeper, beginner or advanced.
