One California newt in my collection reached 17 years of age, and I have several that are over 10 yrs, and have bred. Wonderful for beginners, yet interesting enough for old timers and zoo collections. They do fine on a diet based around Reptomin and similar foods, with live food as a supplement. As long as their water is well filtered, they are quite hardy, and do fine at normal room temperatures.
