Our newt newton was given to one of my brothers as a random gift. Our family wasn't much for amphibians or reptiles before this but "Newton," as he was called was interesting to say the least. He could be active, when we first got him he was as he was probably not used to the new environment. Once he got used to it he was quite docile and only moved around his enclosure occasionally. You did have to make a point to check on him and feed him, the usual things. Overall I doubt he would hold a younger childs interest a newt is more for older children, teens or adults.
