Axolotls are strange little animals. They might look mean or vicious but they are actually calm and very relaxed. They are easy to move from tank to tank with a net or your hands but I wouldn't recommend holding them as they are amphibians and have sensitive skin. The come in an array of colors these days, from their natural dark black brown to the white (leucistic) and pink or yellow (albino) forms. What I loved most about keeping these was their ability to almost suck in their food like a vacuum cleaner. They make a great pets and as they come from high altitude lakes they live in cold water between 17- 18°C. Do take this into account before buying one as if you live in a very hot place they will not do so well in captivity unless you have their tank connected to a cooler. Highly recommended for as an apartment pet
