Great for Kids

I found the toad to be a great pet for a kid. First, they don't give you warts; that's a myth! I found it easy to keep them in a box with sand and a little bowl of water embedded in the sand for soaking and drinking. The toads would move about their environment and seemed to have little personalities. They were very easy to care for, and they didn't make significant messes. They also didn't mind being handled. Really, a great starter pet for kids. One thing I enjoyed about toads (over frogs) is that you knew when they were eating. I could put crickets in their environment, and it was fun to watch them snap them up with their tongues. Don't feed them ants (too acidic from what I was told). Usually, it took the toads a few days to adjust to their environment before they would eat. Overall, a great pet for kids (or adults) with limited hassle. Not sure how they did through the winter in captivity because I always released mine in late summer.
